Kelsea Ballerini has spoken candidly about her divorce from Morgan Evans in a new interview with Elle. Reflecting on the end of their marriage in 2022, she emphasized that she doesn’t want to be seen as “the poster child for divorce.”
Ballerini shared that it’s been three years since the separation and noted that it’s no longer a central part of her life. She said, “It’s simply not in the forefront of my life anymore,” indicating how far she’s come since the divorce. Her openness reflects her commitment to moving forward and focusing on her personal growth.
Kelsea Ballerini emphasized her desire for a more nuanced approach to divorce, explaining that while it should be destigmatized, it shouldn’t be celebrated or glamorized. She recalled her interactions with women who share their experiences of divorce, making sure her first question to them is always, “Are you okay?” rather than offering congratulations.
Ballerini also addressed a moment during her tour when fans in Hollywood, Florida, began shouting obscenities about her ex. She took the opportunity to calmly address the crowd, telling them, “We’re three years past it, everything’s fine now,” and adding, “I sing the song for you now, it’s not about me anymore, please.”
Reflecting on her current happiness, Ballerini shared that her personal life is “unrecognizable from how it was a couple of years ago,” expressing gratitude for the positive changes. She also revealed that she’s found new love with Outer Banks actor Chase Stokes.
Kelsea Ballerini shared how her emotions following her divorce from Morgan Evans influenced the creation of her six-song EP Rolling Up the Welcome Mat. Despite her initial fears about putting such personal feelings out there, she found comfort in seeing how many fans connected with the songs. “It was definitely a scary feeling,” she admitted, but the response was overwhelmingly positive.
Many of her fans, going through similar experiences, resonated deeply with the music. At her concerts, it became common for attendees to hold up signs saying, “Just got a divorce.” While appreciative of the connection, Ballerini remains cautious in her approach, ensuring the conversation remains respectful.
When it came to her fifth album, Patterns, Ballerini made a deliberate choice to work with an all-female team of co-writers. Reflecting on her experience with Welcome Mat, she revealed that the EP was never intended for commercial success. In fact, it was created quietly with one collaborator, Alysa Vanderheym, and didn’t even count toward her record contract. However, the surprising success of the EP led to a deeper connection with her audience, something she hadn’t anticipated.#newsafro_
