A planned pregame skydiving stunt at Virginia Tech took an unexpected turn Saturday when a parachuter became stuck on the stadium scoreboard.
The skydiver had been scheduled to make a dramatic entrance ahead of the Hokies’ spring game, carrying a large American flag under new head coach James Franklin. Instead, the parachute snagged at the top of the scoreboard, leaving the individual suspended high above the field.
Video from the scene showed the chute tangled between large lettering on the board, with the skydiver dangling for about 20 minutes as concerned fans watched from below. During the ordeal, the parachuter released the oversized American flag and a secondary chute into the stands while awaiting help.
Emergency responders eventually arrived and safely brought the individual down. Officials later confirmed the skydiver was stable and not injured.
The incident delayed kickoff of the spring game by over an hour. What was meant to energize the crowd quickly shifted into a tense situation — one that, fortunately, ended without serious harm.#newsafro_
