Davido’s father, Adedeji Adeleke, is set to launch Nigeria’s largest power plant. This ambitious project aims to address the country’s ongoing energy challenges and improve access to reliable electricity. The power plant is part of Adeleke’s broader commitment to enhancing infrastructure and supporting economic development in Nigeria.
Details regarding the capacity of the power plant, its location, and the expected timeline for completion have not been fully disclosed yet, but the initiative is anticipated to have a significant impact on the energy sector in Nigeria, potentially providing thousands of jobs and boosting local economies. The announcement has generated excitement, with many hoping it will contribute to sustainable energy solutions in the region.
Adedeji Adeleke, father of Nigerian-American superstar Davido, has announced that his new power plant will be operational in January 2025. Speaking at the Seventh Day Adventist General Conference Annual Council on October 15, 2024, Adeleke revealed that the facility will have a capacity of 1,250 megawatts (MW), making it the largest thermal power plant in Nigeria.
This significant project aims to address the country’s energy challenges and enhance electricity supply, contributing to economic growth and infrastructure development. The announcement has generated excitement, with expectations that the power plant will play a crucial role in improving energy access and reliability in Nigeria.
Adedeji Adeleke, the father of Davido, shared insights into his journey of obtaining the environmental permit for his $2 billion power plant project. He faced significant challenges, including obstacles posed by “difficult government officials.” One official reportedly told him that the project would never “see the light of day.” In response to this setback, Adeleke turned to prayer, expressing his determination not to accept the official’s statement as final.
Adeleke also highlighted that his firm, Pacific Energy, collaborates closely with Chinese engineering companies for the construction and design of the power projects. This partnership is expected to leverage expertise and resources to ensure the successful completion of the plant, which aims to significantly improve Nigeria’s energy landscape.
Adedeji Adeleke previously discussed his power project during a lecture at the 9th graduation ceremony of Adeleke University in Ede, Osun State, in July 2023. He noted that the initiative began in a village in Ondo State, providing over 1,000 local residents with employment opportunities. Adeleke mentioned that his team invested approximately $72 million in turbines for the facility.
However, the project faced setbacks when looters infiltrated the construction site, stealing components of the turbine machines valued at around $5 million. This unfortunate incident caused delays in the project’s timeline. Despite these challenges, Adeleke has now announced that the power plant is nearing completion, signaling a positive turn in the endeavor that aims to enhance Nigeria’s energy capacity.
