A Brazilian beauty queen has been arrested in connection with an alleged drug trafficking and money laundering operation linked to a major police crackdown dubbed “Operation Luxury.”
Sara Monteiro, 36, was detained on Wednesday in São Paulo during coordinated raids targeting suspected criminal networks operating across the states of Minas Gerais, São Paulo, and Mato Grosso do Sul, according to local reports.
Authorities allege the Miss Universe Uberlândia 2025 titleholder played a role in financing a lavish lifestyle through proceeds from marijuana trafficking. Investigators claim she was taken into custody after search and seizure warrants were executed at her condominium.
Monteiro, who has a large social media following, had previously attracted attention for posts showcasing luxury cars, yachts, and international travel. Officials say these online displays were among the early indicators that prompted closer scrutiny of her activities.
A law enforcement official involved in the investigation said the group under surveillance was suspected of maintaining a lifestyle inconsistent with reported income, pointing to high-value assets and connections to individuals linked to the alleged trafficking network.
Monteiro is also believed to have previously run a fashion boutique, which authorities say inspired the name of the wider operation.
She now faces charges including drug trafficking, money laundering, and participation in an organised crime syndicate. Investigators have reportedly seized several tonnes of cannabis and dozens of luxury vehicles as part of the ongoing crackdown, which has already led to multiple arrests.
Efforts to locate additional suspects, including Monteiro’s husband, are continuing as the investigation expands.#newsafro_
