On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, Nigerian recording artist Tiwa Savage moderated a panel at Entertainment Week Africa held at Eko Hotel and Suites. The session, titled “The Price of Being Her… Power and the Cost of Visibility in Music,” featured prominent Nigerian female artists, including Yemi Alade, Sasha P, Qing Madi, Teni, and Waje, and focused on the professional challenges and dynamics faced by women in the music industry.
In her opening remarks, Savage highlighted the unique difficulties experienced by female artists, particularly regarding professional recognition, compensation, safety, and equitable treatment. She noted that while female artists contribute talent, creativity, and years of dedication, the rewards often do not match the demands, citing issues such as under-representation, underpayment, sexualization, and lack of institutional support.
Savage further emphasized the systemic obstacles that female musicians encounter, including diminished visibility, credit disparities, and limited industry investment, and reflected on the personal and professional costs of pursuing a career in a competitive environment.
She concluded by acknowledging the value of female solidarity in the industry, noting that the panel provided an opportunity to engage with influential peers who inspire, challenge, and support one another, and who contribute significantly to the development of the Nigerian music sector.#newsafro_
