Gunmen suspected to be militia have invaded local communities in the Bokkos council area of Plateau State, Nigeria, resulting in a tragic death toll of 52, with many properties destroyed. The security adviser to the state governor, Brigadier General Shipi Gakji, confirmed the attack to journalists in Jos, the state capital.
In response to the violence, the Plateau State government has announced the arrest of several suspects in connection with the coordinated attacks in Bokkos local government area. The government has also condemned the violence and pledged to bring the perpetrators to justice. The attacks have caused significant displacement, with thousands fleeing their homes in fear of further violence.
These recent incidents add to a history of violence in the region. In December 2023, coordinated attacks on 23 villages in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi local government areas resulted in over 150 deaths and injuries to many others. The persistent nature of these attacks highlights the urgent need for effective security measures and conflict resolution strategies to address the underlying causes of violence in Plateau State.#newsafro_
