Wanni Danbaki, the second runner-up of Big Brother Naija Season 9, has expressed concerns about the financial challenges associated with maintaining a celebrity lifestyle. Despite winning prizes such as a brand-new SUV from Innoson Motors during the show, Wanni has highlighted the significant expenses that come with public attention. She stated, “I love the celebrity lifestyle, but it’s too costly.”
These remarks shed light on the often-overlooked financial pressures faced by public figures, who must balance the rewards of fame with its accompanying costs.
Wanni, one half of the twin DJ duo Wanni X Handi, shared in an interview with Saturday Beats that their booking fees have risen significantly following their rise to fame from Big Brother Naija. She explained, “Before BBN, we were getting gigs, but now, we are getting more shows. Also, our price has gone up because more people know us, and there are more opportunities.”
Wanni expressed her excitement about the return of the popular Headies awards to Nigeria, stating, “It is amazing. The Headies has been happening for about 17 years now, and it is like the ‘core’ of afrobeats here in Nigeria. It is good that they are returning to base, and we get to experience such an amazing programme at home.”
Reflecting on why she and her twin sister Handi chose to pursue careers as DJs, Wanni shared in an earlier interview with Saturday Beats, “It just felt natural. It felt like food to be a DJ. As females, it felt like unapologetically owning that space, and it has been amazing. I cannot wait for what the future holds for the brand.”#newsafro_
