A former inmate is painting a very different picture of Mackenzie Shirilla than the one viewers saw in Netflix’s The Crash.
Mary Katherine Crowder, who says she spent more than six months incarcerated with Shirilla at the Ohio Reformatory for Women, has gone viral on TikTok with claims that the convicted killer acted more like a prison “queen bee” than someone burdened by remorse over the 2022 crash that killed her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and friend, Davion Flanagan.
According to Crowder, Shirilla carried herself like a celebrity behind bars, frequently socializing with a close-knit group of younger inmates and treating prison “like a high school popularity contest.” She also alleged that Shirilla was often cheerful and outgoing despite serving concurrent 15-years-to-life sentences for murder.
Crowder further claimed Shirilla had multiple romantic relationships while incarcerated and would openly show off hickeys from alleged hookups with fellow inmates.
The accusations have sparked major online attention because they sharply contrast with Shirilla’s emotional and subdued portrayal in Netflix’s documentary, where she insists she is “not a monster.”#newsafro_
