Diego Sanchez went through major personal and legal developments in a short span, as his wife, Teresa Tapia, filed for divorce just weeks before the former UFC fighter ultimately avoided prison time in a separate criminal case.
Court documents show Teresa filed for divorce on February 16, 2026, citing “irreconcilable differences” and stating there was no reasonable chance of reconciliation. The filing listed December 20, 2024, as the date of marriage, and noted that the couple had already been living separately since April 2025.
According to the settlement agreement, the split was relatively straightforward on paper, with both sides confirming there was no joint property or shared debt to divide. Each party also waived the right to spousal support.
In a statement, Teresa said Sanchez had moved out of their home about six months before the divorce filing, adding that she tried to support him through personal struggles but ultimately felt she had no choice but to end the marriage. She also expressed continued care for Sanchez and his family, saying she would remain supportive of his daughter, Deijah.
The divorce news came as Sanchez was also dealing with a separate legal situation. He had previously been facing charges related to allegedly firing a weapon from or at a moving vehicle and negligent use of a weapon.
In March, Sanchez was sentenced to five years of supervised probation and 800 hours of community service, after prosecutors had initially pushed for prison time.#newsafro_
