Prosecutors say nine people were on the property of global music star Rihanna when a woman allegedly opened fire, a claim that has led to nine separate counts of assault with a firearm being filed against the suspect.
According to newly obtained legal documents, those present at the home included Rihanna, her partner A$AP Rocky, the couple’s three children, Rihanna’s mother, Hollywood talent agent Tracey Jacobs, and two other individuals.
During a press conference, Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman revealed that Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were inside a trailer on the property at the time the shooting occurred.
Authorities say 35-year-old Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, a Florida resident, has now been formally charged in connection with the incident at Rihanna’s Los Angeles-area home. The charges include one count of attempted murder, nine counts of assault with a firearm, two counts of shooting into an inhabited dwelling, and one count of shooting at a motor vehicle.
Investigators allege Ortiz fired multiple rounds into the Grammy-winning singer’s residence. After the gunfire, police tracked Ortiz’s white Tesla Model 3 to a shopping center parking lot, where she was arrested.
Ortiz was later booked on the attempted murder charge and remains in custody, with bail set at $10,225,000.
Additional details have also emerged about Ortiz’s past. Attorney Hal Roen, who represents Ortiz’s ex-husband, Jed Nikko Valdez Sangalang, told TMZ that Ortiz had previously been placed under the Baker Act in Florida before 2023. The law allows individuals to be involuntarily admitted to a psychiatric facility for up to 72 hours for evaluation.
Court documents further reveal that in April 2024, a Florida judge granted Sangalang full physical custody of the couple’s child. The ruling barred Ortiz from any contact with the child, including in-person visits, phone calls, texts, emails, or communication through third parties unless the court orders otherwise.
Authorities also say Ortiz appeared to have been fixated on Rihanna for some time before the shooting. Investigators found online posts and videos in which she referenced the singer, including disturbing statements mentioning the artist’s death.#newsafro_
