A tragic chapter in Nicki Minaj’s family history has quietly reached a legal conclusion, five years after her father, Robert Maraj, was killed in a hit-and-run incident.
According to reports from TMZ, the driver responsible, Charles Polevich, has now settled a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Nicki’s mother, Carol Maraj. The agreement, finalized in early March, officially ends a long-running legal battle over the devastating loss.
Carol had originally sought damages for the emotional and personal toll of losing her husband, citing the loss of companionship in her lawsuit. The case had taken a dramatic turn months earlier when Polevich attempted to subpoena Nicki herself, hoping to question her under oath about her upbringing and family dynamics. His legal strategy appeared aimed at challenging the nature of Carol and Robert’s marriage in an effort to influence potential damages.
However, that deposition never took place, and with the recent settlement, the case has now been resolved outside of court.
The incident dates back to February 2021, when Robert Maraj was struck while crossing a street in Long Island, New York. Polevich fled the scene but was later identified and arrested with the help of surveillance footage. He ultimately pleaded guilty to charges related to leaving the scene of the accident and tampering with evidence, serving a one-year jail sentence.
With the settlement now reached, the Maraj family closes a painful legal chapter, though the loss remains deeply felt.#newsafro_
