Kathy Bates showcased her dramatically slimmed-down physique while attending AARP’s Movies for Grownups Awards in Beverly Hills on Saturday night, joining fellow stars Sharon Stone and Amanda Seyfried on the red carpet.
The 77-year-old Oscar-winning actress has lost more than 100 pounds, initially shedding 80 pounds through lifestyle changes and later an additional 20 pounds with the aid of the type 2 diabetes medication Ozempic, widely noted for its effects on weight management. Bates appeared slender and elegant in a flowing white dress paired with a high-low blazer, accessorized with a bedazzled clutch, a sparkly necklace, stud earrings, and a bold red lip. Her gray hair was styled in soft waves, completing a polished awards-season look.
Bates’ weight-loss journey was partly inspired by her role as Harriet “Harry” Korn on NBC’s Harry’s Law, during which she found the physical demands of filming challenging. She told People that achieving better health has allowed her to move more freely, breathe easily, and participate in activities without discomfort. The actress, a survivor of both ovarian and breast cancer, has also experienced improvements in her lymphedema and no longer requires compression sleeves.
At the ceremony, Bates received the award for Best Actress (TV) for her work on CBS’s gender-swapped reboot of Matlock. Sharon Stone, 67, turned heads in a black-and-tan patterned skirt and top with her signature blonde curls styled in an updo, while Amanda Seyfried, 40, wore a black blazer over a tiny bra top, paired with slim trousers and sandals. Elle Fanning, Laura Dern, Adam Sandler, Delroy Lindo, Noah Wyle, Stellan Skarsgård, and Alan Cumming also attended, with outfits ranging from classic elegance to bold, statement-making ensembles.
The awards celebrate film and television projects featuring performers and directors over the age of 50 and will air on PBS’s Great Performances on February 22.#newsafro_
