Tiffany Haddish is pushing to have her Georgia DUI case thrown out, arguing that years of court delays have turned the legal matter into a major burden on her career and personal life.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the comedian has filed a motion to dismiss the case, claiming her constitutional right to a speedy trial has been violated after the proceedings allegedly stalled for more than four years.
Haddish was arrested in January 2022 in Peachtree City, Georgia, after police said they found her asleep behind the wheel around 4 a.m. She was charged with DUI and improper stopping on a roadway, with officers suspecting marijuana use at the time.
Her legal team argues that the case has remained stuck due to unresolved motions, including a motion to suppress evidence that was argued in court as far back as May 2024 but has still not been ruled on. They also claim court officials have repeatedly stated they are still “working on it” despite multiple follow-ups.
The filing states that Haddish’s attorneys have informed the court on numerous occasions that she was ready for trial, but say those requests were met with continued delays. Haddish now argues the prolonged uncertainty has gone beyond inconvenience, affecting her ability to work internationally.
She reportedly claims the pending case has caused complications with obtaining travel documentation for overseas projects, including issues linked to opportunities in Australia, and has forced her to hire costly third-party assistance to manage the situation.
Haddish also alleges the unresolved case has made some industry partners hesitant to work with her, resulting in financial setbacks and professional limitations.
Now, after years of waiting, the actress is asking the court to dismiss the case entirely, bringing an end to a legal battle she says has dragged on far too long.#newsafro_
