Operatives of the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, have arrested twenty individuals suspected to be members of a cult group in connection with the fatal shooting of a police officer and related violent crimes in Ilesi, near Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. This was confirmed by the Command’s spokesperson, Umma Ayuba, in a statement issued on Wednesday in Lagos.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on November 29 at approximately 9:30 p.m. when alleged members of the Neo Black Movement, also known as the Aye Confraternity, invaded the Ilesi area in retaliation for a prior attack on one of their members. During the incursion, the suspects reportedly opened fire on a police officer residing in the community, resulting in the officer’s death and severe injuries to two other residents. The assailants additionally amputated the officer’s left hand and absconded with it.
Following the attack, operatives of the Zonal Dragon Squad initiated a coordinated, intelligence-led operation. At approximately 12:00 a.m. on December 1, officers conducted a raid on a suspected hideout in the Ogbere area of Ogun State, leading to the apprehension of twenty suspects linked to the incident and other offenses, including unlawful possession of firearms.

Authorities report that efforts are ongoing to apprehend an additional suspect believed to be in possession of the late officer’s amputated hand. Security has been heightened in affected communities as investigations continue.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the zone, Adegoke Fayoade, urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, reiterating the commitment of law enforcement to ensuring that all perpetrators are held accountable under the law.#newsafro_
