The Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, has been plunged into mourning following the passing of Ayomikun Omobolanle, the only son of veteran actress Peju Ogunmola.
In a statement released by the family, it was confirmed:
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved son, Sola Ayomikun Omobolanle (son of Sunday and Peju Ogunmola Omobolanle), a jewel and rising star whose light touched many lives. Contrary to false reports circulating online, Sola did not pass away from any bathroom accident. He was briefly unwell, received the best medical care, but peacefully answered the call of his Creator.”
The family further disclosed that Ayomikun was interred at Eternal Rest Home, Ibadan, and urged the public to disregard any misleading reports.
Following the announcement, tributes poured in from colleagues and fans across the industry. Among them:
Biola Adebayo described the loss as “devastating and heartbreaking,” praying for divine comfort for the family.
Odunlade Adekola remarked, “This is a big loss. God will console you, ma, and the whole family. This one is huge.”
Kunle Afod expressed, “My heart has been very heavy.”
Femi Adebayo wrote: “Life has written a line too heavy for the stage. Today, we mourn with our dear elder, a thespian whose heart now carries the weight no mother should bear. My thoughts and prayers are with you, ma. May Almighty Allah grant him Aljannah Firdaus.”
Ibrahim Yekini (Itele D Icon) commented, “A mother’s pain in losing her child is beyond words. Olorun ma fi ina omo jo gbogbo abiamo.”
Adedimeji Lateef added, “This is pain! My heart goes out to the entire family in this dark hour. May the Almighty strengthen you during this tough time, ma.”
Muyiwa Ademola concluded, “This is sad! It broke the heart. No accurate words of condolences. The only one to console you is God. This is too much to shoulder, too much to bear. It is well.”#newsafro_
During the week, social media footage circulated showing several Nollywood personalities visiting the Ogunmola family residence in Ibadan, Oyo State to offer condolences. The video depicted actors seated outside the family compound, consoling the grieving parents. Attendees included Dele Odule, Olaiya Igwe (Ebun Oloyede), Ronke Odunsanya, Bimbo Oshin, and Dupe Jaiyesinmi, among others.
Ayomikun, who had recently completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), passed away at the age of 24. His sudden demise has left his family, friends, and colleagues deeply affected.
Contrary to initial reports alleging that his death resulted from a bathroom accident in the United States, the family issued a statement—signed by spokesperson Yemi Amodu—categorically denying such claims.
