Gospel artiste Selina Boateng has issued a cautionary statement regarding the adverse consequences of societal pressure to enter into marriage prematurely. In an interview with Okay FM, Ms. Boateng asserted that the institution of marriage requires a heightened degree of maturity and preparedness, particularly in addressing marital conflicts, including but not limited to spousal abuse, substance dependency, and persistent misconduct.
According to her, a considerable number of individuals contract marriage without adequate self-evaluation or comprehension of their partner’s disposition, thereby rendering themselves vulnerable to irreconcilable differences. She emphasized that many individuals conceal their true character prior to marriage, and that certain behavioural tendencies are immutable.
Ms. Boateng admonished younger persons not to yield to external pressure to marry, warning that those who impose such pressure are themselves frequently contending with matrimonial dissatisfaction, though they may publicly portray otherwise.
Her cautionary remarks were contextualized by reference to her personal circumstances. Having solemnized her marriage with Mr. Isaac Berchie on 7 December 2019 at the Church of Pentecost (Magazine) Maakro Central, Kumasi, Ms. Boateng disclosed that the marriage has since been lawfully dissolved. She further explained that her present single status has relieved her of unwarranted inquiries into her private life.
She indicated that she does not regard divorce as a social stigma and affirmed her unwillingness to alter her identity for matrimonial purposes in the future. Rather, she characterized her position as one of liberation and dignity, while acknowledging ongoing interest from prospective suitors.
In her words: “My line is choked… I have suitors. I am ready. As to whether I will marry a pastor again, only time and God will tell.”#newsafro_
