Scooter Braun, 43, a prominent music executive known for managing major artists including Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and Demi Lovato, has publicly disclosed that he experienced suicidal ideation in 2020. The admission came during his appearance on the Diary of a CEO podcast, where he spoke candidly about the severe emotional distress he endured amid the breakdown of his marriage and the intense public scrutiny surrounding his high-profile dispute with Taylor Swift.
The conflict with Swift arose in June 2019, when Braun acquired the master recordings of her first six studio albums in a deal reportedly valued at approximately $300 million. The transaction, which Swift described as “incredibly painful,” triggered a protracted and widely publicized feud, contributing significantly to the professional and personal turmoil Braun faced during that period.
Scooter Braun has revealed that the deterioration of his seven-year marriage to Yael Cohen, 38—with whom he shares three children: Jagger (9), Levi (7), and Hart (5)—precipitated a period of severe emotional and psychological crisis.
Speaking on The Diary of a CEO podcast, Braun stated that the marital breakdown began to unfold in the year following his widely publicized dispute with Taylor Swift. He described entering a deeply depressive state, admitting that he briefly experienced suicidal thoughts.
“It went to a very dark place,” Braun confessed. “I had a suicidal thought for 20 minutes where I was like, ‘If my marriage is going to fall apart, I’m not going to be with my kids all the time. I can’t control this. I’m not going to be this perfect image that I’ve presented to the world.’”
He explained that this mental spiral was fueled by a flood of “What if” scenarios as he grappled with the prospect of losing both his family stability and the carefully maintained public persona he had cultivated over the years.#newsafro_
