Despite his unwavering confidence in securing his first Grammy Award following his fourth nomination in the Best Global Music Performance category, Ghanaian reggae musician Rocky Dawuni fell short of expectations.
The highly anticipated outcome at the awards ceremony, held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 2, proved disappointing for both the artist and his home country, as Ghana continues its wait for a Grammy victory.
Rocky Dawuni’s uplifting single, Rise, did not secure the Best Global Music Performance award at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
Instead, the honor went to Bemba Colora by Sheila E., featuring Gloria Estefan and Mimy Succar. This marks Dawuni’s fourth Grammy loss, despite his continued recognition in the category.
Other notable nominees included Angélique Kidjo, Arooj Aftab, Jacob Collier featuring Anoushka Shankar & Varijashree Venugopal, Masa Takumi featuring Ron Korb, and Noshir Mody & Dale Edward Chung.
Despite high expectations for Ghana’s first Grammy win, Rocky Dawuni’s bid for the Best Global Music Performance award ended in disappointment for the fourth time.
Following previous unsuccessful nominations in 2015, 2021, and 2023, Dawuni had expressed unwavering confidence in his chances. In a November 2024 interview with Graphic Showbiz, the In Ghana singer stated, “I’m 100 percent sure I will win my first Grammy next year. Weighing my chances on a scale of 1-10, I believe it is 10. I’ve worked very hard over the years, and my consistency will pay off.”
However, Ghana will have to wait for another opportunity to claim its first Grammy victory.#newsafro_
