Lady Gaga recently disclosed that her fiancé, Michael Polansky, did not follow the traditional route of getting down on one knee when proposing to her. Despite the unconventional approach, Gaga expressed her approval, stating that she “likes what he did.” While specific details about the proposal remain private, Gaga’s remarks suggest that she appreciated the unique and personal gesture Polansky made during the moment.
Lady Gaga, 38, has now shared more details about her engagement to tech entrepreneur Michael Polansky, 46. While appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote her new film The Joker: Folie à Deux, Gaga revealed that before Polansky proposed, he first asked for her permission. She noted the significance of this thoughtful gesture, though he didn’t follow the traditional proposal of getting down on one knee, which she was perfectly happy with, emphasizing that she “liked what he did.”
Lady Gaga shared the full story behind Michael Polansky’s proposal during her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! The couple had gone rock climbing together on a trip, something they had enjoyed in the past. Gaga explained that while he didn’t propose at the top of the climb, they took in the view and snapped some photos before heading back down.
As they walked back to their room, Polansky asked for her permission to propose, a gesture Gaga found very characteristic of him. She recalled, “He wanted to know if it was OK to propose before he proposed,” to which she enthusiastically responded, “Yes! It’s so OK!”
When asked if he got down on one knee, Gaga said he hadn’t, adding, “I’m a modern lady. I like what he did.”
When Jimmy Kimmel inquired about her plans for a wedding, Lady Gaga responded with uncertainty, stating, “I don’t know what we’re going to do. We’re not exactly sure yet.” She humorously added that they have considered a simple courthouse ceremony, just the two of them, followed by ordering Chinese food. However, she acknowledged that her spontaneous nature could turn the event into something extravagant, joking that it “could become like a circus with unicorns.”
Gaga also shared an amusing anecdote regarding the timing of the proposal, revealing that she initially thought Michael Polansky was joking when he proposed on April Fool’s Day. During her appearance on The Graham Norton Show, she recounted, “He proposed on April 1st, and I thought he was joking.” She also mentioned a subsequent event at the Olympics, where they were filmed greeting French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, leading her to unintentionally reveal their engagement by saying on camera, “This is my fiancé,” despite her desire to keep it a secret.
Lady Gaga and Michael Polansky were first romantically linked around New Year’s Eve in 2019 and later made their relationship Instagram official in early 2020. Polansky, a graduate of Harvard University in 2006, currently manages the Parker Group, founded by Napster creator Sean Parker.
Gaga, born Stefani Germanotta, has had two previous engagements that were ultimately called off.
Lady Gaga ended her engagement to Christian Carino in early 2019 and previously became engaged to actor Taylor Kinney in 2015, but they broke up in 2016.
At the Los Angeles premiere of Joker: Folie à Deux, the Oscar-winning artist expressed her affection for her fiancé, stating, “I just love my fiancé so much.” She described him as her best friend and partner, emphasizing how being with one’s best friend transforms everything.
Gaga also discussed collaborating with Polansky on her upcoming studio album, Harlequin, in which he serves as co-executive producer. She noted, “It’s just the first time that we decided to fully go into it and do it. It just felt right,” adding that they were “all warmed up and ready to go” for the project.
