The teenage star of the BBC program Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams, Umar Mahmood, aged 18, has tragically passed away following a fatal car accident in Preston, Lancashire, as confirmed by his school. The incident occurred when an Audi A3 Sport veered off the road and collided with trees on Tuesday. Mahmood was transported to the hospital in critical condition, suffering from severe injuries, but unfortunately succumbed to them.
Umar Mahmood, a former pupil of Penwortham Priory Academy who completed his studies two years ago, tragically lost his life in the car crash. In addition, another student from the school, 16-year-old Adam Bodi, also died as a result of the collision.
A statement from Penwortham Priory Academy expressed their deep sorrow at the passing of Umar Mahmood, who was involved in the same accident as Adam Bodi. Umar, who left the school two years ago, died on Thursday, 12 September. The academy described Umar as a “bright, studious, and well-loved” member of their community, with a passion for Geography and cricket. He played for the school’s cricket team and appeared in the BBC One documentary Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams.
The school added, “It was a privilege for us at Priory to know Umar. He was always considerate to those around him and showed ambition and kindness in all he did. We offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends during this very difficult time. They are in our thoughts and prayers today.”
The Preston Muslim Burial Society confirmed that both Umar and Adam will be laid to rest at Preston Cemetery today at 3pm. A spokesman for the society encouraged attendees to walk or carshare and follow the instructions of the volunteers. “May Allah bless their families with sabr jameel during this difficult time,” the spokesman added.
Umar gained public recognition in 2022 when he appeared in Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams, a BBC One documentary where the cricket legend assembled a team from reluctant Year 11 students in his hometown of Preston.
