An out-of-control Audi, involved in a fatal crash that killed three people, reportedly swerved to avoid a horse-drawn carriage before plowing into pedestrians in a busy coastal Welsh town.
Police and paramedics arrived at Beaumaris seafront on Anglesey shortly after 2:45 p.m. following reports that the driver had become unwell before hitting pedestrians. Shocked locals described the Audi A5 as appearing “completely out of the blue” before it crashed into a house near Beaumaris pier. “The Audi seemed to come out of nowhere,” one resident said.
“It swerved to avoid a horse and carriage, mounted the pavement, and struck pedestrians walking past a house— they didn’t stand a chance.”
“People were standing around in shock, unable to believe what had happened,” one witness said. Another reported seeing individuals “trying very, very hard to do CPR.”
She described the scene as “just awful,” noting that the ambulance took a long time to arrive. “When the police and emergency vehicles eventually got here, there was nothing they could do. The vehicle was so mangled; it’s not true.
“Everybody really rallied around, diverting traffic and trying their best to give the victims dignity, but it was pretty horrific.”
She added, “The town is absolutely full of tourists, and people walk down that street. It’s just a beautiful, beautiful place.”
Witness Keith Shed also shared on social media, “It happened right in front of us on the road beside the pier. It’s an utter tragedy for those directly affected by the crash. No warning, it happened completely out of the blue.”
Beaumaris, located on the Menai Strait, is a popular destination for families visiting Anglesey, many of whom are drawn to Edward I’s unfinished 14th-century castle. The town has been particularly busy over the past six weeks due to school holiday crowds.
