Health officials and doctors have been put on alert over rising cases of mpox, a deadly strain which has veen confirmed to have entered Europe.
The World Health Organisation has declared a global health emergency – its highest alert – following the outbreak of this strain in Africa.
The first case outside the African region was detected in Sweden, prompting the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control to be on red alert and raise its risk level.
Health experts have revealed that this new strain is ‘more severe’ with tendency of a ‘higher mortality’ than the one that sparked panic in 2022.
So far in the UK, Health Security Agency are yet to record nor detect any case of this strain, and are however on alert.
Rapid testing is being made available and GPs and hospitals have been told to isolate anyone showing symptoms.
