On Saturday, the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, condemned the killing of fifty-eight civilians and five soldiers in the Darajamal community of Bama Local Government Area.
Governor Zulum, who visited the community to express condolences, commiserated with the families of the victims of the attack, which occurred on Friday night.
In remarks to the press following his visit, Governor Zulum stated that his presence was to console the people of Darajamal over the tragic incident that claimed numerous lives. He described the event as ‘very sad,’ noting that the community had only been resettled a few months prior and had resumed normal activities, before falling victim to an assault by Boko Haram insurgents.
Governor Babagana Zulum, during his condolence visit to Darajamal, stated that his purpose was both to commiserate with the victims’ families and to strengthen the resilience of the affected community.
Providing an update on the incident, the Governor confirmed that sixty-three individuals lost their lives, comprising approximately fifty-eight civilians and five soldiers. He acknowledged the persistent challenges confronting security operations in the state and emphasized the insufficiency of current military deployment to adequately safeguard all vulnerable areas.
Governor Zulum called for the immediate deployment of newly trained Forest Guards to complement military operations, noting that two cohorts had already completed training. He explained that the Forest Guards would be strategically positioned to secure forests and rural communities deemed particularly at risk.
In addition, Senator Kaka Lawan, representing Borno Central Senatorial District, condemned the attack and characterized it as a crime against humanity. He further pledged legislative support to Governor Zulum in efforts to restore peace and stability across Borno State.#newsafro_
