Since the commencement of the year, legendary Nigerian singer, Innocent Idibia, professionally known as 2Baba, has been the subject of various relationship-related controversies on social media. Notwithstanding the public discourse, the artist himself has elected to remain largely silent.
When contacted by Saturday Beats regarding both his silence and the potential implications of the ongoing speculation on his career, Chioma Ebubedike-Igbokwe, Head of Legal and Communication at A Guy Entertainment, unequivocally affirmed that 2Baba’s professional legacy remains unaffected.
She stated:
“It is a commercial reality that controversy often attracts greater public attention than music in the digital age. However, the artistic and cultural legacy of 2Baba is beyond dispute. He is universally acknowledged as one of the greatest figures in African music. Billboard’s recognition of African Queen as the number one afrobeats song of all time underscores this fact. His catalogue, artistry, and cultural impact outweigh the ephemeral noise of controversy. Each of his songs is timeless, and his influence is untouchable.”
Further emphasizing his place in the global music landscape, Ebubedike-Igbokwe remarked that the present international dominance of afrobeats rests upon foundations laid by pioneers such as 2Baba.
She added:
“Our strategy is not to position him in competition with younger artists, but to highlight his unparalleled storytelling ability, stagecraft, and depth. There is space for both the new generation and the legends, and we continue to create platforms that preserve 2Baba’s indispensable voice. He produces music that is conscious and meaningful—qualities which few in the younger generation can replicate. His status as the undisputed king of afrobeats is secure. Like Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and Christy Essien-Igbokwe, his music is timeless, and the younger generation should regard him as a source of enduring inspiration.”
On the issue of the artist’s continued silence, Ebubedike-Igbokwe clarified that such silence was intentional and strategic. She remarked:
“It does not trouble us; rather, it challenges us. Social media may thrive on transient drama, but history is sustained by substance. 2Baba is already enshrined in history as the emotional voice of a generation. With forthcoming projects and tours, his cultural relevance remains undeniable. Silence, in certain contexts, is the highest form of respect—for truth, for family, and for the fans. 2Baba has elected to embrace grace over noise. That said, there are indeed plans for a formal sit-down session, during which he will personally address key matters on his own terms. When the appropriate time arrives, he will speak, and as always, his words will emanate from a place of honesty and humility.”
Addressing public commentary on his recent soundtrack, Save Me, produced for the Netflix series To Kill a Monkey, she dismissed suggestions of muted reception. She stated:
“The soundtrack was very well received by fans, and the online feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Many listeners described it as one of his most personal and soul-stirring works in recent years.”
The management further disclosed that preparations are underway for the release of a new album, a docu-series, and an international tour, assuring the public of an experience that will be both refreshing and authentically reflective of 2Baba’s artistry.#newsafro_
