Following Nigeria’s 2–1 victory over the Black Stars of Ghana in the semi-final fixture of the Unity Cup—an exhibition match held at the Gtech Community Stadium in London—Super Eagles players Frank Onyeka and Igho Ogbu have formally shared their reflections on the match.
Frank Onyeka, aged 27, who recently concluded the 2024/2025 season on loan with Bundesliga side FC Augsburg from his parent club, Brentford FC of the English Premier League, was listed in the starting eleven by Super Eagles head coach, Mr. Eric Chelle. Onyeka contributed significantly to the match over the course of 82 minutes before being substituted by Chinemerem Ugwueze of Rangers International Football Club, Enugu.
His performance was characterized by a commendable level of tactical discipline and work rate.
Reflecting on the fixture, Frank Onyeka, formerly of FC Ebedei and FC Midtjylland, acknowledged the historical and competitive significance of the encounter:
“Matches between Nigeria and Ghana are invariably steeped in deep-rooted rivalry,” Onyeka stated. “Accordingly, we did not approach the game as a mere exhibition or friendly encounter. Our objective was clear—we were determined not to concede defeat to Ghana, given the longstanding footballing tensions between both nations. Fortunately, we capitalised on our momentum in the first half, securing two goals that ultimately proved decisive. While the second half presented greater challenges and was less fluid in execution, we remained resolute and preserved our lead. We are ultimately satisfied with the outcome.”#newsafro_
