The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has formally extended its condolences to the Government and people of Niger State in the wake of the devastating flood that affected Mokwa Local Government Area, resulting in significant loss of life and property.
In a statement issued on Friday and duly signed by the Chairman of the Forum, His Excellency Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the NGF expressed profound shock at the scale and severity of the flooding incident, which has tragically claimed numerous lives and caused extensive damage.
The Forum conveyed its deepest sympathies to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, the Government, and the residents of Niger State, emphasizing solidarity during this period of mourning and recovery.
It is pertinent to recall that not fewer than twenty-one (21) individuals lost their lives, and property valued in the millions of Naira was destroyed, as a result of the flooding that afflicted the Mokwa area of the state.

“We are profoundly shocked by the magnitude of the flooding and the resulting loss of lives and destruction of property in the affected community,” the NGF Chairman stated.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and reaffirm our unwavering support to the Niger State Government during this period of adversity.
“We acknowledge and commend the timely interventions of the Niger State Government and its collaborative efforts with emergency response agencies in providing critical assistance to those impacted by this disaster.
“This tragic event underscores the harsh realities of climate change and its far-reaching consequences on our communities. As stewards of public welfare, we reaffirm our commitment to partnering with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to enhance adaptive strategies, strengthen mitigation frameworks, and bolster relief mechanisms across the country.
“We offer prayers for divine comfort to the families mourning their loved ones and urge all citizens to actively support governmental initiatives aimed at reducing the impact of climate change.
