Actor Tyrin Turner says he was left stunned by the sudden death of former Major League Baseball star Garret Anderson, revealing he was unaware of any serious health issues prior to his passing.
In an interview, Turner—best known for his role in Menace II Society—shared that he and Anderson had been close since their youth in Los Angeles. He recalled recognizing Anderson’s talent early on, saying it was clear from a young age that his friend was destined for greatness on the baseball field.
Their friendship endured for decades, with Anderson even serving as Turner’s best man at his wedding. Turner described their bond as strong and lasting, making the news of Anderson’s death all the more difficult to process.
According to Turner, the tragedy “came out of left field” for those closest to Anderson. He added that he had not been aware of any health concerns and noted that Anderson’s absence from his mother’s funeral earlier this year was unusual behavior.
An official cause of death has not yet been announced. Anderson died on Wednesday at the age of 53.
Tributes have poured in from across the baseball community, including from Mike Trout, who praised Anderson’s lasting impact on the Los Angeles Angels, and former teammate Tim Salmon, who also shared heartfelt condolences.
Plans for a celebration of life are expected, though details have yet to be finalized as family members travel to Los Angeles.#newsafro_
