Felix Rosenqvist is speaking out after his dramatic, last-lap victory over David Malukas in what’s being called the closest finish in Indianapolis 500 history.
Rosenqvist edged Malukas by just two-hundredths of a second in a breathtaking sprint to the finish, sparking questions about whether any tension lingered between the two drivers after such a tight battle.
But Rosenqvist shut down any talk of bad blood, telling TMZ Sports in New York City that there’s nothing but respect between them. He said they spoke after the race during a red carpet appearance and banquet, and even shared a hug, with Malukas appearing genuinely happy for him.
“I’ve been in his shoes,” Rosenqvist said, reflecting on how tough it is to come so close to a win. He added that many drivers congratulated him and seemed sincerely pleased with the result, calling it a positive moment for the sport given the thrilling finish.
The race itself came down to a chaotic final lap, with Malukas leading late before Rosenqvist made a decisive slingshot move in the closing corner to snatch the win.
Beyond the race drama, Rosenqvist also opened up about the traditional Indy 500 milk celebration, saying he fully embraced it after the win, even pouring it over himself and the car in a moment he described as exactly how he wanted to celebrate.#newsafro_
