Smokey Robinson has obtained a procedural victory in the civil sexual-battery litigation pending against him. The court granted his request compelling four plaintiffs—identified in filings as Jane Does 1 through 4—to produce their mobile phones for forensic imaging after Robinson’s legal team alleged a risk of non-preservation of relevant data.
The lawsuit, originally filed in May by four former household employees, asserts multiple claims, including sexual battery, false imprisonment, and related torts. Robinson has formally denied all allegations. In November, two additional individuals, identified as John Doe 1 and Jane Doe 5, sought to join the action, which now seeks damages estimated at approximately $50 million.
According to court filings referenced by the Daily Mail, Robinson’s attorneys argued that several plaintiffs had not complied with prior discovery requests for phone records. The judge ordered the devices to be surrendered within ten days. Robinson’s attorney issued a statement expressing satisfaction with the ruling and asserting that the requested data would be relevant to the defence.
Robinson’s legal team has also initiated a counter-suit against the original four plaintiffs, alleging defamation, extortion, civil conspiracy, and elder abuse. They contend the claims are coordinated and motivated by financial gain, allegations which the plaintiffs deny.
The newly added plaintiffs—both former employees—have asserted additional claims of workplace misconduct arising during their periods of employment. Robinson, through counsel, has denied these allegations as well, characterizing them as fabricated and part of what he alleges is a broader coordinated effort against him.
The civil suit also names Robinson’s wife, Frances Gladney Robinson, and alleges a pattern of wrongful conduct spanning approximately 2007 to 2024 across the couple’s residences in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. The plaintiffs have chosen to proceed anonymously, using Jane Doe and John Doe designations throughout the filings.#newsafro_
