The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported that two individuals were killed and nine others sustained injuries in a multiple-vehicle collision involving eleven vehicles along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway on Wednesday.
Mr. Franklin Agbakoba, Sector Commander of the FRSC Enugu State Command, issued a statement following rescue operations conducted by FRSC personnel and other security agencies. According to the statement, a total of thirty persons—comprising twenty-six males and four females—were involved in the incident, with nine males sustaining varying degrees of injury.
The accident reportedly occurred at approximately 11:45 a.m. on the Port Harcourt-bound lane of the expressway, specifically within the New Garki area of Enugu State. Vehicles involved included four trucks, two trailers, a Toyota Sienna, a tipper, a Hiace bus, a mini-bus, and a Jeep.
FRSC officers from the Ozalla Unit Command responded within ten minutes and initiated rescue operations. They were subsequently supported by additional FRSC units and personnel from other security agencies. Injured victims were transported by the FRSC Zebra 32 Ambulance team to the National Orthopedic Hospital, Enugu, and the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ozalla.
Obstructions on the roadway were cleared through coordinated efforts by the FRSC and Enugu State Traffic Management Authority tow truck teams. Oversight of the rescue operation was provided jointly by the FRSC Unit Commander, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ozalla, and military personnel stationed in the area.
The Sector Commander attributed the collision primarily to excessive speed, among other contributing factors.#newsafro_
