This week, Ms. Wendy Williams issued a formal response to reports concerning her health, which were disclosed in connection with a recent medical evaluation.
Ms. Williams, formerly recognized as a daytime television host, has been residing in a luxury assisted-living facility in New York since 2022 pursuant to a court-ordered guardianship arrangement. Said arrangement vested authority over her personal and financial affairs in a court-appointed guardian, following concerns raised by her financial institution regarding her mental health and potential susceptibility to financial exploitation.
In 2023, Ms. Williams was medically diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia. Notwithstanding such diagnosis, she maintains that she is not incapacitated and has expressed her opposition to the continuing guardianship, contending that she is being subjected to undue control against her will.
According to legal documents obtained by People on Tuesday, Ms. Wendy Williams recently underwent a comprehensive medical evaluation, which was reported to include an extensive battery of examinations, encompassing both medical and neuropsychological testing as well as diagnostic imaging of the brain.
On the basis of these examinations, medical professionals issued an opinion concerning Ms. Williams’ neurological condition. While the legal filings reviewed did not expressly enumerate a specific diagnosis, sources have asserted that the evaluation confirmed the presence of frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in conjunction with aphasia.
Ms. Williams has since issued a formal rebuttal to these assertions, disputing the characterization of her condition as described and contesting the implications thereof.
On Saturday, Ms. Wendy Williams publicly declared, via Page Six, that her legal counsel were “highly upset” in response to recent media coverage concerning her present state of health.
When asked to address her court-appointed guardian, Ms. Sabrina Morrissey, Ms. Williams declined substantive comment and instead stated: “I want to say hi to my attorneys, Allan Diamond and Joe Tacopina. And I will get out of guardianship.” These remarks were made upon Ms. Williams’ arrival at Tucci’s restaurant in New York City, accompanied by the establishment’s proprietor, Mr. Max Tucci.
Concurrently, new legal filings were submitted by counsel for Ms. Morrissey, requesting an extension of the guardianship term for an additional three months, proposing a revised end date of November 5. The petition further indicated that “complications have arisen,” citing the intent of various parties—including legal representatives for certain family members, Ms. Williams’ former spouse, and additional interested persons—to challenge both the guardianship arrangement itself and Ms. Morrissey’s continued appointment as guardian.
This development follows a recent public appearance in which Ms. Williams and her attorney, Mr. Joe Tacopina, confirmed their intent to initiate litigation. Speaking to TMZ, Mr. Tacopina stated: “Those responsible for her status—her, basically, incarceration—will be held accountable. There’s no question about that.”#newsafro_
