Mr. Walter Scott Jr. was born in the state of Texas in 1944. During his early childhood, his family relocated to Los Angeles, California. In 1963, while residing in Los Angeles, Mr. Scott—alongside his twin brother, Mr. Wallace Scott—co-founded the R&B vocal group The Whispers. The founding lineup also included Mr. Nicholas Caldwell, Mr. Marcus Hutson, and Mr. Gordy Harmon.
The group spent a formative period in San Francisco before Mr. Scott was drafted into military service during the Vietnam War. He temporarily stepped away from the group to fulfill his obligations with the United States Armed Forces, serving as a signaleer. Upon completing his service, Mr. Scott rejoined The Whispers in 1969.
