It is with profound sorrow that the family of Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, eminent elder statesman, industrialist, and philanthropist, announces his passing. He departed this life in the early hours of Saturday, June 28, 2025, in the United Arab Emirates, at the age of 94.
The death was formally confirmed to the press in Kano by his longtime Principal Private Secretary, Mustapha Abdullahi Junaid, who expressed his grief in a message stating:
“Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our beloved father, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata. May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus and forgive his shortcomings. The Janazah details will be shared later, insha Allah.”
Alhaji Dantata’s passing marks the close of a distinguished chapter in Nigeria’s commercial and philanthropic history. A scion of the illustrious Dantata family of Kano and paternal uncle to Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, the late statesman was widely regarded as a pivotal figure in the development of private enterprise and social investment in Nigeria.
He began his journey in business by advancing the vast commercial interests bequeathed by his father, Alhassan Dantata, one of West Africa’s wealthiest men in the early 20th century. Under his stewardship, the family enterprise expanded into multiple sectors, including construction, manufacturing, banking, agriculture, and oil and gas.
In addition to his formidable business acumen, Alhaji Dantata was equally revered for his spiritual piety, humility, and relentless commitment to humanitarian causes. Through both institutional foundations and personal philanthropy, he contributed significantly to the development of educational institutions, Islamic scholarship, health centres, orphanages, and community infrastructure across Northern Nigeria.
Throughout his lifetime, he held several strategic positions within both public and private sector institutions, where he provided mentorship to generations of entrepreneurs, civic leaders, and technocrats.
The family has stated that funeral arrangements (Janazah) will be communicated in due course.
May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may his enduring legacy of integrity, generosity, and public service continue to inspire future generations.#newsafro_
