It is understood that a number of individuals—described as supporters of the football club—intervened in an apparent attempt to prevent a male driver of a Ford Galaxy from proceeding into densely populated areas. Eyewitness footage captured on Water Street depicts members of the public surrounding the vehicle, vocally confronting the driver with urgent commands including “What are you doing?” and “Get out of the car.”
Preliminary reports indicate that the vehicle subsequently made contact with a substantial group of spectators, resulting in injuries to approximately 50 individuals. Four persons remain in serious condition and are currently receiving treatment at local hospitals. Authorities are investigating the matter as a potential criminal offence involving reckless or dangerous driving, with possible aggravating factors under consideration.
Following an initial, momentary advance, the driver in question proceeded to reverse the vehicle into a densely packed crowd before accelerating forward while audibly sounding the horn.
Eyewitness accounts assert that the vehicle then rapidly increased speed, engaged in erratic manoeuvres including swerving and mounting the pavement, and travelled approximately 200 yards through assembled members of the public. During this trajectory, numerous individuals were reportedly struck and displaced with considerable force, prompting scenes described by witnesses as chaotic and highly distressing.
Merseyside Police have confirmed the arrest of a 53-year-old white British male, identified as a resident of the Liverpool area, in connection with the incident.
The vehicle-related incident occurred shortly after the official parade route had passed through Water Street, which lies approximately one mile from the designated endpoint of the procession on the Strand in Liverpool city centre. The celebratory procession had commenced at Allerton Maze and covered a 10-mile route over a duration of approximately three and a half hours.
Law enforcement authorities are continuing to investigate the matter, including potential charges of dangerous driving, causing grievous bodily harm, and offences under the Public Order Act.
Additional video evidence circulating on social media platforms appears to depict the vehicle accelerating as it veered into groups of pedestrians positioned on both sides of the carriageway. The footage shows the vehicle travelling past a commercial premises identified as Hooters, during which multiple individuals were observed being struck—some falling from the vehicle’s bonnet, others attempting to evade impact by moving quickly out of its path.
An eyewitness, Mr. Matthew O’Carroll, aged 28, of Runcorn, stated that he observed the vehicle approaching the top of Water Street. According to his account, the vehicle passed a stationary police van at what he described as a “decent speed,” and the driver was audibly sounding the horn as the vehicle moved through the assembled crowd.
Another witness, Mr. Mike Maddra, offered further testimony, indicating that the vehicle made a left turn, mounted the pavement, and proceeded directly toward nearby buildings. Mr. Maddra recounted that he and others managed to move out of the vehicle’s path, at which point it appeared to accelerate. He further noted his belief that at least two individuals were struck and described the driver’s actions as appearing “deliberate.”
Subsequent footage shows a number of bystanders surrounding the vehicle after it came to a stop, with some individuals reportedly damaging the car by smashing its windows prior to the arrival and intervention of Merseyside Police officers.
Another witness, Mr. Harry Rashid, aged 48, of Solihull, reported that one could “hear the bumps” as the vehicle collided with individuals in the crowd.#newsafro_
