Following ongoing challenges related to underperforming ticket sales for the ‘Cowboy Carter’ Tour, Ms. Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, aged 43, encountered additional complications in the form of technical malfunctions during a live performance. Fan-recorded footage from the final concert of her five-night engagement in Los Angeles captured a stage robot failing to execute its programmed movement, resulting in an apparent disruption to the planned production.
This incident follows reports that Ms. Knowles-Carter was recently issued a cease-and-desist notice pertaining to the unauthorised use of imagery depicting a well-known concert venue as part of the tour’s promotional or visual content. The tour has faced notable difficulties in securing full attendance at scheduled performances in Los Angeles and is reportedly experiencing similar challenges with forthcoming dates in Chicago and London.
During a segment of her performance at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Ms. Beyoncé Knowles-Carter was observed pausing her set to take a seated position on an oversized, gold-colored throne. As part of the theatrical staging, a robotic apparatus—resembling industrial machinery—was programmed to simulate the act of pouring a bottle of liquor into a glass affixed to the throne’s armrest.
However, the mechanical arm failed to execute the maneuver accurately, instead discharging the liquid prematurely and spilling it onto the throne itself rather than into the intended vessel. The incident resulted in visible spillage across the seat occupied by Ms. Knowles-Carter.
The performance was choreographed to continue with Ms. Knowles-Carter mimicking the act of consuming the beverage and subsequently reaching for a remote control on the opposite armrest, as part of a stylised portrayal of a relaxed, at-home viewing scenario. This sequence was notably impacted by the mechanical malfunction.
During the performance, Ms. Beyoncé Knowles-Carter—attired in a form-fitting white Western-themed ensemble adorned with sequins and tassels—appeared visibly surprised and momentarily embarrassed upon lifting a glass, only to discover it was empty following the earlier malfunction involving the robotic apparatus intended to fill it. She exhibited a brief facial expression suggestive of amusement before discreetly returning the glass to its designated position on the throne’s armrest.
Demonstrating professional composure, Ms. Knowles-Carter resumed the scripted sequence, reaching for a remote control and gesturing as though activating a television, as originally choreographed.
Social media users subsequently commented on the incident, with one user on platform X (formerly Twitter) observing, ‘Beyoncé wanted to laugh so bad… she looked up at the robot like it wasn’t a robot.’ Another commenter remarked, ‘Beyoncé is so unserious.’ While the available footage did not definitively reveal the cause of the mechanical error, one individual attributed the mishap to human oversight, suggesting that the device may not have been properly aligned: ‘They didn’t put it directly on its mark, kinda like when they didn’t mark where she had to stand to perform Cozy.’ A separate user jokingly added, ‘She ready to fire the robot.#newsafro_
