Prince Harry’s explosive BBC interview has been described as a “sad and sorry saga” by royal expert Professor Kate Williams, following his fresh criticism of King Charles and the Royal Household. In the interview, Harry lamented that the King “won’t speak to me” and said he didn’t know “how much longer my father has,” revealing he won’t bring Meghan or their children back to the UK amid a deepening family rift.
He also accused the Palace of interfering in his legal efforts to regain police protection, claiming he has been “singled out” and “badly treated” since stepping back from royal duties. His court appeal was rejected, with the judge calling the decision to reduce his protection “predictable.” Harry has vowed to write to Home Secretary Yvette Cooper to review the process.
Williams noted Harry appeared “angry and resentful,” raising doubts about any future reconciliation. Meanwhile, insiders defended King Charles, saying his refusal to intervene in the security case was due to constitutional propriety.
There is a profound sense of despair over the attitude of his father. It is, by all accounts, a deeply sad and regrettable situation.
Although there had once been hope for some form of reconciliation, it is now apparent that while the Duke of Sussex professes a desire for such, he no longer believes it to be possible.
This follows the Duke’s pointed and forceful criticism of His Majesty the King, whom he claims “will not speak to me”, and his assertion that he has been subjected to an “Establishment stitch-up”.
In the same statement, the Duke accused the Royal Household of improperly interfering in his protracted legal effort to restore police protection for himself and his family while in the United Kingdom.
These remarks were delivered during an uncompromising interview with the BBC, aired in the wake of a court ruling that went against him.
Prince Harry further declared that he has no intention of returning to Britain with his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, stating that familial relations have deteriorated to the point where he is unsure “how much longer my father has” to live.
He is, by all indications, profoundly aggrieved. It remains uncertain what course of action he will pursue from here.#newsafro_
