Jim Carrey has honored the late Batman Forever co-star Val Kilmer following the Top Gun actor’s passing at the age of 65.
Kilmer, who succumbed to pneumonia on Tuesday, portrayed the iconic caped crusader in the 1995 film, while Carrey took on the role of the Riddler.
In a statement obtained by People, the 63-year-old comedian reflected on Kilmer’s legacy, stating that history will remember him for his “indelible acting performances.”
Carrey also extended his condolences to Kilmer’s family, expressing deep admiration for both the actor and the man he was.
“I’m remembering Val Kilmer today with great admiration for him as a man and as a generational talent who left us an enviable legacy of indelible acting performances,” Carrey stated.
He went on to praise Kilmer’s resilience, adding, “His greatest artistic achievements were rivaled only by the grace and courage with which he endured life’s most challenging moments. Wishing his family so much love.”
Carrey is not the only Batman Forever co-star to pay tribute. Actress Debi Mazar, who played Spice in the film, reflected on her first encounter with Kilmer—an unexpected meeting in a “dilapidated van with a missing door” following filmmaker Vincent Gallo’s wedding.
Mazar described Kilmer as a “fighter” who persevered despite significant health struggles. Diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014, Kilmer underwent a tracheotomy that permanently damaged his vocal cords, altering his voice.
“So sad to hear that Val Kilmer has passed,” Mazar wrote. “I met Val in 1984 in a dilapidated van that had a door missing. We had just attended Vincent Gallo’s wedding to a girl named Denise (?). The van took a bunch of us to the wedding reception in Jamaica, Queens. Super fun memory of that day… Years later, I’d work with him in The Doors & Batman Forever.”
She continued, “He was so talented & interesting. I know he struggled over the years with his health and was a fighter. My condolences to his family & loved ones. May he R.I.P.”#newsafro_
