The tragic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday claimed the life of one person and left 15 others injured.
According to a report from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), the crash occurred when the driver of a Mazda bus lost control and collided with a truck exiting a private company along the expressway.
The accident involved a truck with the number plate MUS 641 YF and a Mazda bus with the number plate APP 360 YK. Emergency responders rushed the injured victims to a nearby hospital, where one person was later confirmed dead by doctors.
Authorities are investigating the incident, with overspeeding and loss of control suspected as possible causes.
Ogun State TRACE Commandant Seni Ogunyemi confirmed that the accident occurred near AIM Company on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
He stated that 16 people were involved—eight adult males and eight adult females. According to eyewitnesses, the FAW truck was exiting AIM Company to join the expressway when the Mazda bus, reportedly speeding and losing control, crashed into the truck’s side.
Emergency responders rushed the injured victims to a nearby hospital, where one person was later confirmed dead. Authorities have attributed the accident to excessive speed and loss of control.
The body of the deceased was deposited at Livewell Hospital morgue in Sagamu, while the injured victims received treatment at the same hospital.
Ogunyemi confirmed that the Sagamu Police Division towed the vehicles involved for further investigation.
This latest crash brings the road accident death toll in Ogun State to eight in the last five days.
Friday: Three fatalities, including two toddlers and one adult, in an accident on the Ota-Idiroko Expressway.
Saturday-Sunday: Four separate crashes on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and Ogijo-Ikorodu Road killed three people and injured around 10 others.
