Katie Holmes exemplified effortless chic as she donned a pleated skirt paired with a cozy sweater while attending a performance of her play Our Town in New York City.
The 45-year-old actress, who has garnered positive reviews for her role in the revival of Thornton Wilder’s classic play, accentuated the warm tones of her complexion with a light brown sweater. She complemented the slightly oversized top with a gray and black plaid pleated skirt featuring a side belt buckle.
The understated influencer infused a touch of glamour into her look by stepping out in silver ballet flats and accessorizing with a gold necklace featuring a heart pendant. Holmes carried a white shoulder bag with a long leather strap and completed her ensemble with large sunglasses.
Her long, dark hair was styled away from her face, accentuated by bold streaks of gray. The Rare Objects actress and director donned a similar ensemble when she posed for a promotional photo with her fellow Our Town cast members, which she shared on social media on Sunday. The graphics over the photo read, “When are you coming? This is your chance to see an American Classic,” tagging @playbill and @ourtownbroadway.
In an interview with Playbill, Holmes discussed the significance of working on a show first produced in 1938, stating, “He didn’t want this to be a play about nostalgia,” referring to director Kenny Leon.
“He wanted this to be a play about village life set against the stars, against humanity,” Holmes explained. She portrays Mrs. Webb, the mother of Zoey Deutch’s protagonist, Emily. The message of the work, set in the fictional Grover’s Corners, continues to resonate with generation after generation.
“It’s about time—that’s what we keep talking about,” the actress asserted. “We have to be present in our lives, and that’s a beautiful statement to make, especially coming out of COVID,” she remarked.
“Jim [Parsons], as the stage manager, has these lines about how two people fall in love and that moment when they realize they’re in love and are going to get married. Hearing Ephram (Sykes) and Zoey say those lines, it’s like we are still saying the same thing to each other.”
Following several weeks of previews, Our Town is set to officially open on Broadway on October 11.
