In a remarkable display of collective strength, bystanders managed to overturn a vehicle to rescue a driver trapped inside. The extraordinary act of bravery unfolded as the group worked together to lift and flip the car. However, upon freeing the driver, they were met with an unexpected and shocking discovery inside the driver’s seat.
This past weekend, a crowd demonstrated extraordinary strength by rescuing a man trapped in his overturned vehicle, only to uncover a startling revelation after the heroic effort.
The incident occurred in a Brooklyn neighborhood on Saturday when a speeding minivan collided head-on with two parked vehicles, resulting in a violent crash. Surveillance footage from a residence near Howard and Blake Avenues in Brownsville captured the moment the minivan struck a black Jeep and a maroon pickup truck, causing it to flip onto its driver’s side.
The driver, identified by police as 61-year-old Olubunmi Awoluyi, was trapped inside the overturned vehicle and faced an imminent risk of being crushed, according to witnesses. Residents, drawn by the loud impact, emerged from their homes to investigate the scene. One eyewitness, speaking to ABC 7, described the crash as sounding “like a bomb exploded,” emphasizing the sheer intensity of the collision.
Eudes James, the owner of both the Jeep and truck involved in the crash, led a group of bystanders in an effort to rescue the trapped driver by overturning the minivan. Around a dozen men worked together to upright the wrecked vehicle and free the driver, identified as Olubunmi Awoluyi.
James described the harrowing scene to CBS, noting, “He was bleeding from his mouth. There was blood on the road. It was terrifying to see someone pinned and crushed.”
As police and firefighters arrived on the scene, they made a critical discovery: two bottles of alcohol, one found on the pavement and another inside the minivan. Witness Shanique Fox recounted, “When the firefighter opened the door, the liquor bottle fell out.”
Authorities later revealed that Awoluyi had been driving drunk down Rockaway Parkway, a straight road cutting through Brownsville and Canarsie. Prior to the crash, he had struck two other vehicles and then allegedly made a U-turn, hitting a 26-year-old woman and her 3-year-old daughter, who was in a stroller.
