On Monday, the Kwara State Police Command arraigned Nigerian singer Badmus Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, before the Upper Area Court of Kwara State, presided over by Chief Magistrate Sunday Adeniyi.
Credible reports suggest that the defendant experienced difficulty in fulfilling the terms of his court-imposed bail on the same day.
According to the Investigating Police Officer, ASP Adeniyi James, the charges against the defendant were instituted pursuant to direct instructions from superior police authorities.
The legal action arose from a formal petition lodged by renowned Fuji musician Okunola Saheed, professionally known as Saheed Osupa, alleging defamatory conduct and other criminal infractions committed by the defendant.
According to the contents of the Police First Information Report (FIR), the complainant, Fuji music artist Okunola Saheed (professionally known as Saheed Osupa), lodged a direct complaint with law enforcement authorities, in which he accused the defendant, Badmus Okikiola (alias Portable), of engaging in the following criminal acts: criminal defamation, criminal intimidation, incitement to public disturbance, and cyberstalking.
The alleged offences are said to contravene and are punishable under the provisions of:
Section 392 of the Penal Code (Criminal Defamation);
Section 114 of the Penal Code (Inciting Disturbance);
Section 397 of the Penal Code (Criminal Intimidation);
Sections 24(1)(b) and 24(2)(c) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015; and
Sections 10 and 13 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2020.
The FIR further alleges that the defendant conducted a live-streamed broadcast in which he made derogatory statements against the complainant. It is asserted that the defendant falsely claimed to have orchestrated the removal of Osupa’s music from Apple Music and Spotify, thereby injuring the complainant’s reputation and potential revenue derived from those digital platforms.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) submitted by the police, the complainant alleged that the defendant, Badmus Okikiola (popularly known as Portable), utilised a live-streamed video broadcast as a medium to maliciously malign his character.
It is specifically alleged that the defendant made false and defamatory claims to the effect that he had caused the removal of the complainant’s musical works from major streaming platforms, including Apple Music and Spotify, thereby damaging the complainant’s professional reputation and adversely affecting his prospective income.
The petition further avers that on March 19, 2025, during a live broadcast via Instagram, the defendant made statements accusing the complainant of being jealous and of actively seeking to sabotage the defendant’s musical career—remarks which the complainant maintains are untrue, injurious, and intended to incite public disrepute.#newsafro_
