Kanye West took to social media on Thursday, posting the phrase “Free Puff” in a public plea for the release of Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is currently facing sex trafficking allegations. West’s message, which appeared on both his Instagram and X/Twitter accounts, emphasized his belief that the Black community should rally behind Combs and other figures, like Chris Brown, who have faced significant legal troubles.
In a direct appeal to former President Donald Trump, West wrote, “PLEASE FREE MY BROTHER PUFF,” and expressed frustration over the lack of support for these figures. He also made a pointed statement, writing, “ALL THESE CELEBRITY N***** AND B****** IS P**** YALL A WATCH OUR BROTHER ROT AND NEVER SAY S***. WE ALL WATCHED TAKE CHRIS BROWN AND AINT NOBODY DO NOTHING I WAS P****THEN TOO CHRIS BROWN ITS TO THE WHEELS FALL OFF.”
In addition to his social media post, West launched a merchandise line featuring Combs’ Sean John brand on his Yeezy.com website. He stated that half of the proceeds from the sales would be sent to Combs.
Combs, who was arrested in September, has pleaded not guilty to the charges and remains incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. He is awaiting a trial set for May 5, after being denied bail multiple times. His legal team has expressed confidence in his eventual acquittal, despite the ongoing legal challenges.
Combs’ legal team has firmly denied the allegations against him, stating: “No matter how many lawsuits are filed, it won’t change the fact that Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted, or sex trafficked anyone—man or woman, adult or minor.” They emphasized that in a world where anyone can file a lawsuit, the judicial system would ultimately uncover the truth. “Fortunately, a fair and impartial judicial process exists to find the truth, and Mr. Combs.”
However, prosecutors in Combs’ federal case argue that the music mogul used blackmail and violence to silence victims. Among the accusations against him is that he coerced women into participating in group sexual exhibitions known as “Freak Offs.”
Combs, who faces sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for prostitution charges, remains in federal custody nearly five months after his arrest on September 16 in Manhattan. He has made three unsuccessful attempts to secure bail, with concerns raised by the court that he might flee or interfere with his case.
Before his arrest, Combs was in the public eye throughout 2024, especially after raids on several of his properties in March and a disturbing video from May showing him assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie, which was aired by CNN.
Amid these serious allegations, Kanye West’s call to “Free Puff” was met with largely negative reactions from his social media followers, particularly on X/Twitter and Instagram, where many criticized West’s support for the embattled mogul.#newsafro_
