Rappers Kanye West and Travis Scott have had their upcoming performances in Italy called off, after officials in one region raised security concerns tied to the planned events.
According to Prefect Salvatore Angieri, a local government official in Reggio Emilia, the July shows were canceled following complaints from members of the local Jewish community regarding West. Authorities also cited broader security considerations linked to the large crowds expected at the event.
The decision marks another setback for West, who has faced a series of international cancellations in recent months, including restrictions that have affected his ability to perform in certain countries. Officials noted that previous international controversies surrounding the rapper were also taken into account during the review.
The canceled lineup had originally included a major collaboration of artists, with West and Scott set to appear alongside acts such as The Chainsmokers, Rita Ora, and Swedish House Mafia.
While West previously performed in Italy in 2023 to large crowds at Rome’s Circus Maximus, the current situation reflects a significantly different reception from local authorities this time around.
Despite recent public efforts by West to address past controversies, Italian officials ultimately concluded that proceeding with the shows was not viable due to safety and security concerns.#newsafro_
