The Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Mr. Chris Okafor, has presented himself to the Nigeria Police following allegations of multiple rape and other offenses alleged to be capable of occasioning a breach of public peace, according to the Lagos State Police Command.
The matter has since been transferred to the office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Mr. Sylvester Alabi, for further investigation. This development followed Mr. Okafor’s failure to honor an earlier police invitation issued by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, on Sunday, notwithstanding an undertaking conveyed through his legal counsel that he would appear on Monday.
Speaking in an interview with TVC on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, stated that upon Mr. Okafor’s failure to appear as promised, directives were issued for his arrest. He confirmed, however, that the pastor subsequently reported himself to the police on Tuesday.
CP Jimoh further disclosed that it was later confirmed that the same allegations had already been formally lodged and under investigation at the Zone 2 Headquarters for approximately three weeks. Given that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police overseeing Zone 2 is his immediate superior, the Commissioner explained that the case was accordingly remitted to that command for continuity and proper jurisdictional oversight.
Addressing concerns raised by alleged victims and members of the public, the Commissioner noted that complaints are increasingly being brought to light through social media platforms, stressing that the police are obligated to act in the public interest where such allegations may threaten public order and safety.
The allegations against Mr. Okafor first emerged in mid-December 2025 through online platforms. Among the accusers is Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, who alleged that she had been involved in a prolonged sexual relationship with the cleric since 2017, during which she claims he made unfulfilled promises of marriage, shared explicit materials, and played a role in the dissolution of her former marriage.
In response to the mounting allegations and public scrutiny, Mr. Okafor reportedly addressed his congregation on December 28, 2025, during which he apologized for unspecified past “mistakes” and publicly sought forgiveness.
There are further reports that the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria is contemplating disciplinary measures against Mr. Okafor, who has since stepped aside from active pastoral responsibilities pending the conclusion of investigations. The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that adequate security has been provided for the alleged victims and that investigations by the SCID, Panti, and the Zone 2 Command remain ongoing.#newsafro_
