Aaron Phypers, the estranged husband of actress Denise Richards, has publicly addressed allegations of domestic violence made against him, during which he drew a controversial comparison involving Nick Reiner, the son of filmmaker Rob Reiner.
Mr Phypers filed for divorce from Ms Richards in July, after which Ms Richards accused him of repeated acts of physical abuse. Mr Phypers has categorically denied the allegations, asserting instead that Ms Richards was the abusive party. In connection with these claims, Ms Richards obtained a restraining order against him, which was later extended to a five-year duration.
In October, Mr Phypers was charged with two felony counts of injury to a spouse and two felony counts of dissuading a witness by force or threat. He was arrested and subsequently released after posting bail in the amount of $200,000. He is scheduled to be arraigned following his decision to waive arraignment at a recent court appearance.
When questioned on Friday regarding Ms Richards’ motives for making the abuse allegations, Mr Phypers referenced recent events involving the Reiner family and suggested that substance use and impaired mental state may have influenced Ms Richards’ actions. He later stated that he was not directly linking the two situations and reiterated his plea of not guilty.
Mr Phypers further characterized the allegations as fabricated and retaliatory, asserting that they were part of a broader public narrative rather than based on factual events. He has maintained that he intends to contest the charges and prevail in the proceedings.
At his court appearance, Mr Phypers appeared without legal representation, explaining that his financial resources were temporarily inaccessible. He has sought spousal support from Ms Richards, arguing that he is at risk of financial hardship and homelessness and lacks the means to retain counsel or meet basic living expenses.
Ms Richards opposed his request for expedited spousal support, citing personal unavailability due to medical reasons. The presiding judge denied Mr Phypers’ request on the basis of insufficient urgency, court congestion, and scheduling constraints, setting the next hearing for January.
The parties began their relationship in 2017 and married in 2018. Their marriage and subsequent separation have been accompanied by extensive litigation, including allegations by Ms Richards of physical abuse and threats, which she supported with documentary evidence and witness testimony. Mr Phypers has consistently denied all allegations and has asserted that any restraining orders issued against him are unnecessary.
Mr Phypers remains released on bail and is expected to appear in court for further proceedings related to the pending felony charges.#newsafro_
