Matters Under Review
Law enforcement authorities have confirmed that the individual identified as the primary suspect in the Brown University shooting incident was located deceased on Thursday night. The suspect, Claudio Neves Valente, aged 48, a former Brown University student and a citizen of Portugal, was discovered at a storage facility in Salem, New Hampshire.
According to a sworn affidavit, investigators stated that observations made by a campus custodian, together with information contained in an anonymous post on the online platform Reddit, materially assisted in narrowing the scope of the investigation. Prosecutors further indicated that the suspect employed deliberate measures to evade detection, including the use of an untraceable mobile device and the avoidance of financial transactions linked to his personal identity.
Prosecutors have further alleged that Neves Valente was responsible for the killing of a professor affiliated with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the days following the Brown University incident. It was disclosed that both individuals previously participated in the same academic program in Portugal between 1995 and 2000.
The United States Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, announced a suspension of the diversity visa lottery program, stating that Neves Valente entered the United States through the program in 2017 and was subsequently granted lawful permanent resident status.#newsafro_
