Weeks after her reinstatement from a six-month suspension, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, has extended a formal invitation to the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, along with other distinguished lawmakers, to attend the inauguration of her constituency development projects in Kogi State.
The gesture, widely interpreted as an overture towards reconciliation following a period of strained relations between both legislators, was conveyed through a personally signed letter from Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, which was publicly read by the Senate President during Thursday’s plenary session.
The letter, marking the senator’s second anniversary in office, reads in part:
“In marking my second-year anniversary as a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I wish to invite my distinguished colleagues to join me for the inauguration of constituency projects in Kogi State.”
According to the communication, the event is scheduled for Sunday in Ihima, Okene Local Government Area, with the designated assembly point at her residence located at Plot 101, Jimoh Akpoti Street. Lawmakers intending to travel by air were advised to make use of the Obajana airstrip before proceeding to Ihima by road.
Upon reading the letter, Senate President Akpabio responded with goodwill, stating, “Congratulations in advance.”
This cordial exchange signifies a notable shift from the tense relationship that followed Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension on March 6, 2025, over allegations of gross misconduct during plenary proceedings relating to the reallocation of her Senate seat.
Her suspension, which she had publicly described as a reflection of “dictatorial tendencies” within the chamber, lapsed in September 2025. However, she only regained full access to her office two weeks ago following extended procedural and legal engagements.
Since her return, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has resumed active legislative duties, including sponsoring an amendment to the Criminal Code (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
