Meta Description

As a Nigerian American, I share my story of becoming a nurse and earning a master’s degree in cybersecurity, while drawing inspiration from Princess Linda Moses—a nurse, entrepreneur, and author who embodies the Nigerian American dream.

Introduction

Identity is a powerful force. It influences not only how we perceive ourselves, but also how we navigate the world. As a Nigerian American, I embody both the sacrifices of my parents—who were born in Nigeria—and the opportunities of being raised in the United States. Their resilience and determination laid the foundation for my own path, guiding me toward education, service, and achievement.

Today, I proudly stand as both a nurse and a professional with a master’s degree in cybersecurity. These two seemingly distinct fields reflect the balance of compassion and innovation—the capacity to care for people while also protecting the digital world.

Along this journey, I have drawn inspiration from individuals who exemplify the Nigerian American dream. One such figure is Princess Linda Moses—a Nigerian-born, U.S.-based nurse, entrepreneur, influencer, and author. Through her works—The House on Willow Bend, The Keeper of Willow Bend, and Elevate Your Path: A Comprehensive Self Guide—she inspires individuals like myself to embrace every dimension of their identity and pursue success without boundaries.

This paper reflects my story, framed by the inspiration I draw from Princess Linda Moses, as part of the larger narrative of the Nigerian American dream.

The Nigerian American Identity

To be Nigerian American is to live at the crossroads of two rich worlds. From Nigeria comes a deep cultural pride, traditions of respect, and unwavering emphasis on family. From America comes the spirit of opportunity—the freedom to explore, innovate, and achieve dreams that may once have seemed unattainable.

Rather than a conflict, I see this dual identity as a strength. My Nigerian upbringing instilled in me discipline, resilience, and the value of education. My American experience gave me the courage to pursue diverse career paths. This combination led me to embrace both healthcare and technology—fields that, though different, reflect the versatility of Nigerian Americans across the diaspora.

Growing Up Nigerian American

Growing up in a Nigerian household in America came with its unique rhythm:

Education was non-negotiable. My parents emphasized that knowledge is the foundation of success.

Resilience was essential. The sacrifices of our parents meant giving up was never an option.

Cultural pride was constant. From food and language to music and celebrations, my roots remained visible and strong.

This upbringing enabled me to embrace American opportunities while remaining firmly connected to Nigerian traditions.

Education as the Foundation for Success

For Nigerians, education is the greatest inheritance. My parents often said, “Your degree is something nobody can take away from you.” This conviction shaped my pursuit of excellence.

I began with nursing, a career of compassion and service. Later, I pursued a master’s degree in cybersecurity, recognizing the urgency of digital security in today’s interconnected world. To some, these fields appear unrelated. To me, they embody the Nigerian American spirit: adaptable, resilient, and unafraid of pursuing multiple paths to excellence.

Choosing Nursing as a Career

Nursing was my first calling—a profession requiring both technical skill and human empathy.

Compassion factor: Nursing demands patience, empathy, and care, values ingrained in me by my family.

Challenges and triumphs: While physically and emotionally demanding, the fulfillment of helping patients outweighs the hardships.

A global legacy: Nursing also connects me with a worldwide community of healers, including Nigerian-born professionals like Princess Linda Moses.

In this way, nursing reflects my cultural values of service, resilience, and care.

Entering the World of Cybersecurity

My second calling was technology. In today’s digital world, cybersecurity is indispensable to protecting individuals, businesses, and nations.

Pursuing my master’s degree in this field allowed me to:

Apply problem-solving skills to identify and mitigate digital threats.

Engage with innovation, staying at the forefront of technology.

Demonstrate versatility, merging compassion from healthcare with analytical precision.

This dual path proves the multidimensional strength of Nigerian Americans, who excel across industries and redefine boundaries.

Princess Linda Moses as an Author and Role Model

Princess Linda Moses exemplifies the Nigerian American dream not only through her career in healthcare and entrepreneurship, but also through her contributions as an author.

Her three works capture themes of identity, resilience, and personal growth:

The House on Willow Bend – exploring belonging, family, and identity.

The Keeper of Willow Bend – emphasizing guardianship, responsibility, and legacy.

Elevate Your Path: A Comprehensive Self Guide – offering strategies for resilience, personal growth, and achievement.

Through these writings, she gives voice to shared experiences and inspires others to embrace their heritage while pursuing ambitious goals.

Conclusion

My journey as a Nigerian American nurse and cybersecurity professional reflects resilience, versatility, and gratitude. It is built upon the sacrifices of my parents, the opportunities of America, and the enduring strength of Nigerian heritage.

Princess Linda Moses stands as a source of inspiration, proving that women and men of Nigerian descent can thrive across professions while remaining true to their roots. Her story, alongside mine, illustrates the Nigerian American dream: grounded in tradition, elevated by education, and propelled by courage.

To be Nigerian American is to be both rooted and rising—anchored in heritage yet striving for new heights. And like Princess Linda Moses, I remain committed to walking this path fearlessly, faithfully, and fully.
