Mr. Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, aged 55, has issued public statements through legal counsel regarding the conditions of his confinement at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, describing the facility as “inhumane.” Mr. Combs is currently detained at MDC pending sentencing following his conviction on two counts of transportation with intent to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted of the more serious charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy.
In support of a renewed bail application, Mr. Combs’ legal team submitted a letter to the Honorable Judge Arun Subramanian, as reported by The Mirror US, in which they detail allegations concerning the deteriorating living conditions at the facility. While counsel expressed appreciation for the MDC staff’s cooperation in allowing adequate access for legal preparation—crediting that access as integral to the successful defense on key charges—they emphasized that such cooperation does not negate the conditions endured over the past eleven months.
The letter references a Forbes article highlighting recent budgetary reductions affecting staff levels and compensation at the MDC, which, according to the defense, have further compounded the institution’s operational challenges. Counsel argued that contrary to the government’s assertion, “living conditions at the MDC remain inhumane and the conditions seem unlikely to improve due to the aggressive government budget cuts.”
Among the most serious allegations, Mr. Combs’ attorneys claim that MDC has “routinely served food that is expired and infested with maggots,” citing a photograph, originally published by the New York Daily News, purportedly depicting such contaminated food. Counsel added, “The maggot-infested food captured in that photo is, unfortunately, not an uncommon experience.”
However, these claims have been contested by federal authorities. Mr. Emery Nelson, spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, stated to The Mirror US that there is “no evidence of the presence of maggots” in any of the food served at the MDC and denied that the image in question originated from within the facility.#newsafro_
