Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has acknowledged that the club faces a “decision to make” regarding the future of striker Alexander Isak, who has reportedly expressed a desire to leave during the current transfer window. Howe emphasized that any outcome must ultimately serve the best interests of the club.
As first reported by Mail Sport on Thursday, Isak is understood to have informed the club’s senior management of his intention to depart this summer, with Liverpool said to be preparing a potential bid that could set a new British transfer record.
Notably, Isak has not travelled with the squad to Singapore, having cited a thigh injury earlier in the week. In light of Howe’s remarks during a media appearance at the team hotel on Saturday afternoon, the player’s future at Newcastle United remains uncertain.
When asked whether he would prefer a swift resolution to the situation, Howe responded: “I wouldn’t put a timescale on it. I think with these situations it has to be right for the football club, and everything then is taken into context below that.”
Manager Eddie Howe further stated that the club intends to make a well-informed decision regarding Alexander Isak’s future, one that aligns with its broader strategic objectives. He emphasized that such a decision would be based on all relevant information and aimed at advancing the club’s long-term interests.
“The club will make the right decision with all the information that it has, and ultimately to try and move the club forward in whatever way that is,” Howe remarked. “Then it’s up to us to make good decisions in response and to improve the squad as best we can. That’s what we’re trying to do, regardless of Alex’s situation.”
He continued by highlighting the collective nature of transfer decisions at the club, noting: “There’s a wider picture here. There’s a whole football club that has to make the decision — the ownership, together with the board of directors — particularly given the financial magnitude of modern-day transfers. The manager, of course, has an opinion, but ultimately, the decision will rest with the board.”#newsafro_
